The spirit of the season was in full force Monday morning as over 100 volunteers gathered at Fourth Street Live! to make a difference for local families.
In the 14th annual “Boxes of Love” event, organized by Metro United Way and supported by unions, community groups, elected officials, and local businesses, volunteers worked tirelessly to assemble and distribute holiday meals for 1,600 families across Louisville and southern Indiana. The event, which began at 6 a.m., has become a cornerstone of holiday giving in the community.
Feeding Hearts and Homes
Each box, carefully packed by volunteers forming a human assembly line, contains a holiday meal designed to feed a family of four. The meal includes a hearty ham and a selection of side items, ensuring that families can enjoy a warm and festive celebration despite financial hardships.
First responders, veterans, and union members joined the effort to personally deliver these meals to veterans, Fort Knox soldiers, and families in need. Their dedication highlighted the true meaning of community, service, and holiday giving.
14 Years of Impact
Since its inception, Boxes of Love has delivered over 17,700 boxes, providing meals to nearly 70,800 people. The event has become a beacon of hope for thousands, ensuring that no family goes without during the holidays.
“Boxes of Love is about more than just food—it’s about showing families that their community cares,” shared an event organizer. “It’s incredible to see so many people come together to make a difference.”
Join the Movement
As the program continues to grow, so does the need for support. Community members interested in contributing to the Boxes of Love initiative can help by donating or volunteering to keep this tradition alive.
This holiday season, the volunteers at Boxes of Love remind us all that together, we can build a stronger, more compassionate community—one meal, one family, and one act of kindness at a time.
