Paula Poundstone

The Kentucky Center

The Arts Insider interviewed Poundstone for the January 2010 issue of Today’s Woman, naming the feature The World According to Paula. As preparation for the interview with the comedian — who is a popular panelist on NPR’s #1 show, the weekly comedy news quiz, Wait, Wait…Don’t Tell Me! — I read her 2007 memoir There’s Nothing in This Book That I Meant to Say. However, because the pages were filled with so many in-depth references to historical figures, including the Charles Dickens, Ludwig van Beethoven, Joan of Arc, and Helen Keller, it was all I could do to keep up in conversation with this exceedingly nice, exceptionally intelligent, self-deprecating satirical artist! In 2017, a follow-up to the memoir was released. Titled The Totally Unscientific Study of the Search for Human Happinessthe artist chronicles her amusing and surprisingly personal search for the key to happiness.
