Behind the scenes of our Derby photo shoot at The Hub

Jacey Holloway poses for our first shot of the day.

Get a behind-the-scenes look at our Derby shoot at The Hub (see it on page 62). We got inspired by the cool cocktails and moody atmosphere to create these modern Derby looks.

The location: Stylist Alissa Hicks first brought The Hub to our attention as a potential Derby photo shoot location back in January. The cool decor and creative drink mixology of owner Eric Wentworth paired perfectly with a cocktail theme.

The day: February 25; there’s a light snow that turns to rain later.

The models: We found the women who modeled for this shoot at Thurby 2015 and Derby 2014. It took six hours for makeup artist Denise Cardwell and hairstylist Tiffany Baker from Blades Salon & Spa to complete their looks.

The photographer: We adore Louisville-based photographer James Moses’ talent with lighting. We’ve worked with him for 15 years and love to give him a call come Derby time.

Interesting tidbit: Before becoming The Hub, the building used to be a tire shop called River City Tires. Do you notice the connection between both business names?

Eric Wentworth created the Scarlet Lady cocktail with Tito’s Vodka, lemon, blueberry lavender syrup and Cocchi Rosa.

Jennifer Brummett looks stunning in red. Her drink is a Chambery which contains Herbs de Provence infused rhum, agricole, lime, sugar, Genepy des Alpes, and rosemary.

The Aperol Spritz cocktail – Ice cubes, slice of orange, 3 parts Prosecco or any other dry sparkling wine, 2 parts Aperol, and splash of soda.
Ashley Thornberry has the Flame Dame cocktail -- a mixture of Citadelle gin, lime, Kalani coconut liqueur, cardamom syrup, cream, and Peychaud's bitters.
