Arts Insider Pick of the Week: Paula Poundstone at the Kentucky Center

**The Arts Insider had the pleasure of interviewing Poundstone in November of 2009-titling the subsequent Arts insider interview: “The World According to Paula”. But quite frankly, what I remember most about my time with Poundstone was the fact (that) because the avid reader referenced such historical figures as Charles Dickens, Ludwig Von Beethoven, Joan of Arc, and Helen Keller, whom she’d written about in depth in her memoir “There’s Nothing In this Book I Meant to Say” (Three Rivers Press); it was all I could do to keep up with the exceedingly nice, exceptionally intelligent, self-deprecating and satirical artist during her phone interview!

“At the top of her game.” - San Francisco Chronicle

“Never been funnier.” - Boston Globe

"Insightful, thought-provoking humor." - Chicago Tribune

32 years ago Paula Poundstone climbed on a Greyhound bus and traveled across the country making stops at various Open Mic nights and comedy clubs. A high school drop-out, Paula has become one of the great humorists of our time.

You can hear her as a regular panelist on NPR’s popular weekly news quiz show, ‘Wait Wait…Don’t Tell Me.” She also tours regularly, performing stand-up comedy across the country, causing Bob Zany with the Boston Globe to write: “Poundstone can regale an audience for several hours with her distinctive brand of wry, intelligent and witty comedy.”

Over the span of her career, Poundstone has amassed a long list of awards and accolades. In the early 1990’s, she was the first woman to win the cable ACE for Best Standup Comedy Special and the first woman to be invited to perform standup at the prestigious White House Correspondents dinner.
