Arts Insider Pick of the Week: The Beach Boys at Louisville Palace

One of America's greatest rock bands, The Beach Boys have sold over 100 million records world-wide, and were inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 1988. Rolling Stone Magazine ranked them Number 12 in their listing of ‘Greatest Rock Bands of All Time.’

Formed in Hawthorne, California in suburban Los Angeles in 1961 by brothers- Brian, Carl and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine, their songs about surfing, cars and romance led to 36 Top 40 singles, i.e.: "I Get Around", "Fun Fun Fun", "Surfin' USA", "Be True To Your School", "Little Surfer Girl", "Sloop John B", "Little Deuce Coupe", 'When I Grow Up To Be A Man", "Don't Worry Baby", "409", "Wendy", "Barbara Ann", "Wouldn't It Be Nice", "God Only Knows", "Caroline, No", "Sail On Sailor" and "Kokomo".

Lead singer, songwriter, band leader Mike Love is joined on tour by keyboard player/singer Bruce Johnston, who joined the band in 1964. Dennis Wilson drowned in Los Angeles in 1983, and Carl Wilson died of cancer in 1998. Brian Wilson tours only rarely. In June of this year Brian and The Beach Boys were the subjects of a highly regarded new movie (“Love And Mercy”), starring John Cusack.

**Never in all my years of attending the annual Abbey Road on the River musical festival event held Memorial Day weekend @ the Belvedere, has the Arts Insider seen the Main Lawn soooo jammed-packed with enthusiastic concertgoers as I did in 2014 when The Beach Boys were the festival’s guest artists!
