4 Health Benefits of Cinnamon

We've all seen them and some of us have tried them, but if you were to get on the Web, read a magazine, or look at social media sites, you'll find hundreds of home remedies using natural household items. We recently talked about how you can find several uses for coconut oil inside the home, and now we’re talking about cinnamon! Here are four useful and healthy ways to use cinnamon at home.

According to an Egyptian study, cinnamon was the number one ingredient in essential oils known for keeping house mites at bay. Also, as found by the University of Kentucky College of Agriculture, Food and Environment, these allergens affect a minimum of 45 percent of children with asthma.

Digestive Issues. Due to certain characteristics of this spice, cinnamon can help to control bacteria in the digestive system. A cup of cinnamon tea two or three times a day can significantly help to reduce stomach pain and cramping.

Common Cold. Given that cinnamon is proven to have powerful antimicrobial properties, a paper published in the American Journal of Chinese Medicine shows that cinnamon essential oil was found to be “highly effective in controlling the common cold.” By slowing down the growth process of certain bacteria and fungi using cinnamon, or cinnamon supplements, you can more easily keep the common cold virus at bay.

Acne. As seen all over the Web, a mixture of cinnamon and honey can be used for many DIY remedies. This concoction can also help treat acne and other skin conditions. Take 1 tsp of honey and 1 tsp of cinnamon (or 2 drops cinnamon oil) and mix together before applying to the face. Leave the homemade mask on for at least 1-2 minutes before rinsing off. Give it a try for a week, and you should notice clearer skin after several days.
