Arts Insider Pick of the Week: Jane Monheit performs Hello Bluebird

Jazz vocalist Jane Monheit has been a leading light in both the jazz and cabaret worlds since emerging as a finalist in the Thelonious Monk Institute’s 1998 vocal competition. Her first album “Never Never Land,” was voted top debut recording by the Jazz Journalist’s Association and stayed on the Billboard Jazz chart for over a year.

She also has worked alongside the likes of Terence Blanchard, Tom Harrell, and Ivan Lins. “Everything I’m singing now is a reflection of my truest self,” says Jane Monheit. “After all this time in the industry, after touring for 13 years, it’s time to just be me, with complete and utter freedom.”  Monheit celebrates her roots as a jazz musician by performing American jazz standards at her Clifton Center concert with highlights written by Arthur Schwartz and Howard Dietz, Rodgers and Hart, Irving Berlin and Jerome Kern.

On a personal note, I attended Monhoit’s Clifton Center performance a few years ago, and I was so impressed that I made a mental note to make a point of buying tickets the next time the lovely singer returned to Louisville!

When: March 1 @ 7:30pm
Where: Clifton Center’s Eifler Theatre, 2117 Payne Street
Tickets: $32-$38

Contact: cliftoncenter.org, or purchase in person at Carmichael’s Bookstore, 2720 Frankfort Avenue. For more information call 502. 896.6950
