3 Easy Life Makeovers to Start Doing this Fall

Today's Woman Now
Sometimes treating a new season like a new year is all we need to make small changes in our lives. This helps us to make smaller, smarter changes more often rather than try to commit to one hefty change once a year. With fall upon us and a new school year started, take this time to make some changes to better yourself. Here are a few small and easy (not to mention tasty!) changes you can start with this season.

1. Up your water intake
Drinking enough water is one thing most people cannot seem to get down. We’ve heard it over the years that you need at least eight glasses of water per day. However, is that true? Is that enough? According to Dr. Oz, “The Institute of Medicine sets general guidelines for total water intake. It recommends that women consume a total of 91 ounces (that’s about 2.7 liters) per day – from all food and beverages combined. For men, it’s about 125 ounces a day (or 3.7 liters). Depending on your diet, about 25 percent of the water you consume comes from your food.” If you know you don't drink enough water, make it a small goal in your daily life to up your intake. You’ll be amazed at the benefits – including healthier and clearer skin, better digestion, a decrease in your average calorie intake, and more.

2. Swap the soda
One of the easiest ways to take a few inches off your waistline (and to be able to drink more water) is to cut the soda. If you’re an avid soda drinker and it’s your go-to beverage, try reconsidering this fall. Both regular and diet sodas can easily pack on the pounds. Swap soda for something less sugary. Try flavored water, or even try sparkling water mixed with sugar-free lemonade to get that carbonation taste without the extra inches.

3. Make just one cookie
Sometimes we just need a hit – a small taste to curb the craving without going overboard. Life is all about moderation! Next time you’re in the mood for something sweet, try making a single dessert instead. Cookie in a Mug has been trending on Pinterest and other sites lately and we think it’s a genius idea! Try this recipe when you need a fix. (Healthier options in parentheses).

Cookie in a Mug

  • 1 Tbs butter
  • 1 Tbs granulated sugar (or Truvia)
  • 1 Tbs brown sugar, firmly packed (or Truvia)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt
  • 1 Egg yolk
  • 3 Tbs all-purpose flour (or almond flour)
  • 1-2 Tbs chocolate chips (or 85% cocoa bar cut up in pieces)

Melt butter in microwaveable mug, then add all other ingredients, microwaving for about 45 seconds. Top with whipped cream and enjoy!
