Summer Dresses: Take Them into the Fall! Here's how...

One of my favorite things to do in fashion is to renew and reuse! It challenges me to be creative, inspires me to be daring and keeps my wallet a little bit fuller…

Summer dresses are a staple in most women’s closets: flowy, bright, cool, comfortable material…who doesn’t like to just throw on a dress and nice sandals and run out the door? Here are three rules to follow to take your favorite dresses from summer to fall:

Quiz skater dress, $39 / Mossimo collar dress / SELECTED short jacket, $105 / Madewell military jacket / Madewell shoes / Balmain black suede shoes, $735 / FOSSIL satchel purse / Proenza Schouler snakeskin purse / LK Designs wrap around bracelet, $120 / Gold jewelery / Wayfarer style glasses

  1. Invest in a great jacket this fall. Target, Gap and Old Navy all have great options for the army green cargo jacket you see in the image. This jacket tones down any bright colors and provides warmth as the mornings and evens start to cool off. Extra Tip – keep jackets in a deep jewel color like the beautiful purple one in the image. This will contrast the bright colors, toning them down.
  2. I always say “When in doubt, the shoe always fits…” Fall shoes are full of booties, menswear-inspired flats and sophisticated heels. Keep up with the fall theme by finding a great casual shoe like the simple white tennis shoes or a great loafer to throw on when your open toes just don’t cut it.
  3. Understandably, our bags get piled down with the constant daily routines, receipts, to-do lists and kiddy-snacks, so spice it up by investing in a great black, neutral or jewel-toned clutch. Enjoy a night out on the town and leave your worries and your calendars behind. Extra Tip – One great look we are seeing this fall is the top-handle bag, like the brown leather one you see in the image. Great for a sleek and classic look, this bag can go with you anywhere and keep everything you need close.
